Ultrasound In Pregnancy
Ultrasound imaging is carried out at several stages of pregnancy to help your obstetrician manage the pregnancy. The first scan is performed between 6 and 18 weeks to confirm viability and also to confirm the gestation or age of the pregnancy.
Nuchal screening can be performed from 11-13 weeks of pregnancy with specific blood tests as part of a non-invasive screening program for Down's syndrome.
The next important scan is the Anomaly scan at 18-24 weeks to confirm normal development. After this additional scans can be performed to assess normal growth. Some couples also like to have a non-medical ‘baby bonding’ scan which allows them to see their baby using 4D ultrasound.
SMS Health is affiliated to Baby Premier at www.babypremier.co.uk which offers a full range of obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound examinations.
