TruScreen Cervical Probe
This is new technology developed in Australia and already successfully used in countries with no established cervical screening programme.
This test involves gently touching the cervix in designated places with a probe that uses light at specific frequencies. The light can identify cell changes and gives an immediate result either normal or abnormal.
The accuracy of the test is between 65 -70% and the established accuracy of conventional cervical smear testing is 69%. However, combining the tests gives an accuracy of 93%.
If the result indicates an abnormality a cervical smear is not required, but the next step is to see a gynaecologist for further investigation.
